The first annual Photo Shoot Out at Island Lake took place this week with an overwhelming applaud form photographers, athletes and slide show spectators alike. The weather cooperated with 10 cm of fresh snow Sunday night and blue skies throughout the event.

Six photographers hand picked three athletes to shoot over the 3 days. Once the day of shooting was complete at Island Lake, the group headed to Historic Downtown Fernie where photographs from the days adventures were shown at a local watering holes. A panel of judges decided on the best photographs of the day, in the categories of best action, best overall athlete of the day and best scenic/abstract.

The best photos were rewarded daily with prizes supplied by our industry partners: K2 Skis, The North Face, Smith Optics, Spy, and Veer.

The grand prize donated by Veer and Island Lake Lodge were awarded the last night and were for the best overall athletic team who won 1 day of cat skiing for 12 and the best photographer based on overall portfolio of the 3 days who won a $1,000 cash purse.
